The "Vase" is not just one of the artist’s series. Through this form, Andrii engages in a dialogue with the material.
The "Vase" is not just one of the artist’s series. Through this form, Andrii engages in a dialogue with the material.
A remark is necessary: the full diversity of vases created by the artist is difficult to encompass within the scope of this publication. It is, rather, an invitation — to open a door into the fascinating world of forms, one that cannot be fully grasped with a single glance.
He began as a potter and continues to devote a significant part of himself to this craft. It is in pottery that the true essence of clay is revealed. Merely spinning on the wheel, under the touch of the artist’s hands, the material gains the ability to defy the laws of physics that once seemed beyond its reach.
This transformation — and the direct, tactile sensation of it through the fingertips — leaves no one indifferent. It’s an experience worth living through, because by discovering, we expand the boundaries of our world.
Alongside this traditional approach to form, the artist also breaks stereotypes by creating objects free from functional purpose. This freedom allows him to bypass convention, unlocking new possibilities in image, narrative, and composition.
The vase becomes a portal into another world — and an intimate space for improvisation.
"Durio" 2015
The Durio series marked the starting point of Andriy’s artistic experiments on the potter’s wheel. The artist sets himself the challenge of creating handmade objects that show no trace of being crafted by human hands.
The series evolves autonomously, while simultaneously influencing other works and series by the artist.
Pieces from the Durio series are featured at the Macsabal Museum in South Korea, as well as in the Ukrainian Contemporary Ceramics Pavilion (ICMEA) at the Fuping Pottery Art Village ceramic center and art residency in China.
During Andriy's participation in the 10th anniversary Korea International Ceramic Biennale 2019, a film was presented as part of the exhibition, revealing the technique behind one of the pieces from the Shell series, where the artist applied the visual language of "Durio".
"Flowering phases" 2014
The "Flowering phases" series began in 2014 and continues to evolve to this day. The source of inspiration for this series is the flower — or rather its life cycle, from bud to withering. It is an endless space for exploration and preservation, as every moment of a flower’s fragile and brief life is incredibly beautiful and deserves to be eternalized.
The photographs in this collection showcase pieces created in 2019, which were brought together for the first time into a unified ensemble. Since the artist pays special attention to each object, even such a small ensemble requires a tremendous amount of time to complete.
This porcelain series received an encouragement award at theInternational Ceramic Art Award (ICAA) Blanc de Chine in 2017.
One porcelain piece from the series is part of the collection at the Illichivsk Museum of Fine Arts of O.M. Biliy, Ukraine.
Additionally, porcelain works from the series are exhibited in the Ukrainian Contemporary Ceramics Pavilion (ICMEA) at the Fuping Pottery Art Village ceramic center and art residency in China. It was there that the “Phases of Blooming” series was first realized in porcelain.
"Pulsation" 2021
This remarkable series allows one to enjoy the creative process as a form of improvisation. It surely brings no less pleasure to the curious viewer.
The prototype was a bean pod that, upon ripening, splits open to release its seeds.
In this series, the artist fully embraced the desire to let go of control and surrender to the play of creation. The material plays an undeniable leading role in this process. The unique properties of each ceramic clay give each piece its own distinctive “timbre”.
These works can be compared to frozen water splashes, where the impact on the material conceals its handmade origin, and gravity completes the form, later fixed in stone.
One porcelain piece from the series participated in the 3rd International Ceramic Art Award (ICAA) Blanc de Chine in China and is now part of the organizers’ collection.
"Button" 2020
The “Bud” series stands at the intersection of the overall vase concept and the Flow series.
Here, the bud is on the verge of unfolding, revealing its innermost heart. This is one of the few series by the artist where minimalism is not just a style but a justified and flawless expression, requiring no unnecessary details or touches.
Several objects from other series
This small photo selection shows that the artist has many more series and ideas, which are difficult not only to realize but even to imagine in such a limited format.
